Hepatitis C Treatment

Hepatitis C (HCV) is a contagious liver disease caused by the Hepatitis C Virus. At least 60% of all transmission occurs through shared, unsterilized needles. Many people living with Substance Use Disorder carry HCV without knowing it, because Hepatitis C often causes no symptoms until it has already caused serious damage.

If left untreated, Hep C can lead to liver cirrhosis, liver failure, liver cancer, and severe internal bleeding from dilated blood vessels. Symptoms, when they do appear, can include fatigue, nausea, joint pain, abdominal discomfort, jaundice, and changes in urine or stool color.

The good news: Hepatitis C can be cured with antiviral medication. Northwest Integrated Health (NWIH) tests patients for HCV and successfully treats Hepatitis C at our clinics. Pharmaceutical assistance programs are available to help with the cost of treatment. Ask your provider or care navigator about eligibility when you visit.
